The Royal Manufacturing Co, Detroit, c. 1900 Canvas Roll Up for Flatware Salesman Samples with Leather Buckle

Regular price $45.00

I just thought this was cool and great looking too. It is a canvas roll up with leather strap stamped by The Royal Manufacturing Co, Detroit, MI,  which was a late 19th-early 20th century producer of mostly silver plated items, including flatware, serving pieces and watch cases. This roll is stamped "Samples" and then what looks to me like "Best" and "Good." It unrolls to reveal two vertical woven cloth straps punctuated by leather mounts, which I am guessing would have held samples of various pieces of flatware, in various patterns. The blue (I'd call it Tiffany blue!) fabric (with flaps that open like wings) is of the sort used to store and polish silver. Certainly it could be used for storing silver now, or other sorts of things (tools, paint brushes, who knows?) but I also just like it as a thing, both outside and in.

10" w x approx 2 1/2" d when rolled up. 21" x 10" w unrolled (with flaps closed.) Very good condition with just some age toning to the blue interior cloth.
