Wrapped Potential: Antique Unopened Roll of One Dozen McLoughlin Bros. Parade Flags (With Unknown Number of Stars)

Regular price $80.00

I didn't think too hard about this/these when I bought it/them, at a flea market in Lancaster County, PA--I just loved the idea of an unopened roll of a dozen American parade flags (which, rolled tight, also a bit evince a stick of dynamite.) And as if lying (for a very long time( in wait of a worthy occasion, at which they might be unfurled. From the label still attached, we know they were made by McLaughlin Bros., the pioneering New York publishing firm (active 1858–1920) that revolutionized children's literature in the 19th century by mass-producing books using advance chromolithography, also applied to the production of puzzles and games. What I have been unable to determine from the label is the date of production here--these flags, which the label notes bear the "full number of stars" could feature anywhere from 33 to 48 stars. And the fewer the number the more valuable the flags. So a mystery here, which one could break the seal to reveal, but I'm leaving in tact, all about potential!

10 1/16" x 7/8" d. A bit of loss to the label along bottom edge and some fraying to the muslin flag just there (I have to assume not to the rest of them; it looks as though just to the surface.) Rolled tight, label clearly never removed.
