Very Old Carved Folk Art Jig Doll with Marvelous Patina

Regular price $195.00

It's been a very long while since I found a beautiful antique carved jig figure, so a total joy to find this very old one at Brimfield, in an unexpected place, as if he'd just been waiting for me. As purely primitive as they come, with the best untouched, very dark dry wood surface. There are two holes on the sides of his torso suggesting he may one have had arms, but it so they've been gone a very long time. The jointed legs, connected by wire, end in boot heels, good for dancing when held by dowel that would have fit in the hole in his back.  He will sit up on his own with legs out front, though is especially well balanced positioned in a split, one leg in front, on behind. C. mid 19th century American I would think.

10 3/8" t x approx 2" w x 1 3/4" d. Beautiful antique condition. It may be the wire at hips was replaced at some point, but I believe those at the knees are original.
