I really love this painting, which feels very very much like winter in my neck of the woods—where I am always feeling for the horses (and cows, too) outside in the snow! Part of what I love here is that its maker painted individual falling snowflakes, which, if you look closely, give this brown horse white spots! The whole thing is really wonderfully done, with a subtle wintery palette given just the right pop with green pines and bright blue sky, and the thickly laid paint that makes it quite visceral—you can just feel the scraping of the palette knife on the creamy white roofs of the house/barn. Terrific.
Oil on canvas, sold in the frame I found it in, I believe original to it and which suits it very well. 16 5/8" x 13 5/8" framed. Painting: 14" x 11". Very good condition, earlyish 20th century I believe.
