Slapstick! C. Early 20th Century Turned Handle Noisemaker in Glorious Original Paint

Regular price $195.00

A rare find. This is a old slapstick, made to generate what sounds like a loud slap when stuck against the hand (it also works banged against other things!)--and yes, slapstick comedy took its name from slatted noisemakers just like this. In its glorious original polychrome-stripes on one side, solid red on the other, and with the four slats painted yellow from the sides. Perhaps fraternal--clearly made to be seen as well as heard. With black painted turned handle, a delight to hold and use.  C. early 20th century I believe.

18" l x 1 3/8" w x 1 116" d. Beautiful, all original condition. A bit of darkening to the red paint in a couple of spots, not at all detracting.
