It's been quite a while since I found a piece of bottle cap folk art I really liked, but I didn't think twice about this old basket, found in inland Maine. Looking closely, there is some color still on the flats of the bottle caps, but the rusted edges are the more dominant tone. Well constructed, with the caps strung on heavy wire, and the whole thing very sturdy and sound. And very sculptural--I'd describe it as voluptuous!-- altogether a very good and satisfying example.
8" d x 8" t. Very good condition, 1st half 20th century.
