Olney's Modern Geography, 1835, With Excellent Endpaper Squirrel Drawing!

Regular price $40.00

It is interesting to revisit world geography from an 1835 American perspective, but I must say this one for me is really all about the squirrel drawing on the inside of the front cover! Executed in graphite, it is definitely of the period. There is also a terrific nine quadrant printed chart of directions with hands pointing every way a few pages in. And then it is all about America. (I think there was another chunk to this book, lost at the back; this covers North and South America but leaves off at the beginning of Europe.) Lots of engravings throughout, photos give a sense.

5" x 3/4"  156 numbered pages here, with I think a chunk of additional pages lost at back, though the spine of the cover is not deep enough to accommodate a whole lot more. Plenty of wear to covers and generally, and binding separation from cover at rear, as pictured. Squirrel drawing pretty crisp and graphite strong, so good!
