Nice Old Simple Carved Whimsy Chain

You know I am always on the hunt for whimsies, but haven't found a whimsy chain in quite a while--this one of two today, found together, each carved from one piece of wood. One sees simple whimsy chains like this continuing to be carved, but there's a world of difference--this is a really nice, old one, with satisfying squarish form to the links, and rich, dry patina. One feels the hand of its maker all over this, a lovely example.
