SOLD Lonicera Sempervirens (Carolina Trumpet Honeysuckle), Antique Watercolor with Shadow on Laid

Lovely watercolor, c. late 19th century, on watermarked laid. I love a watercolor of a flower with ink wash shadow, lending it a special sort of moodiness as well as a trompe l'oeil aspect. This is a Carolina Trumpet Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens),a native, non-invasive climbing vine and gift to birds and bees and butterflies alike. 

8 7/8" x 5 7/16". Watercolor on laid. Some old light staining to the paper below the flower--along bottom of page, which pretty much falls away.
