There are folky paintings executed on old slates and then is an old folk art painting on an old slate like this that is something very special. My favorite I've ever seen, and it feels a bit James Castle to me. Those snowy banks glow with a green undertone. And that fence running 3/4 up the side of the hill at left. And the flurry of falling snow. And the house at the center, as if nestled in the (literal) bosom of the landscape. With amazing crustiness to the surface of the frame of the slate, and one old loss to the interior edge of the frame at right, which is exactly right. I should keep this.
