As handwritten on the reverse, this photograph was taken at the "Maison de la Mutualite" ("House of Mutual Aid," a center built to house healthcare and nonprofit mutual insurance funds for workers) in Reims, France, documenting damage in the immediate aftermath of German bombing during WWI. This appears to be a period print, the image I believe taken by a photo journalist; the same image was featured in a 2025 exhibition at the Reims City Hall, all about the destruction incurred to Reims during the war. Quite a dramatic image, and quite an existential feeling one too--starting down into the void, with another void overhead.
7 1/16" x 5 1/8". Good condition, with some edge curling as shown.
