Favorite Ever 19th Century Handmade Paper Doll with Three Dresses and Two Hats

Regular price $95.00

I do believe this is my favorite paper doll I have ever found, and I've found a lot of them. I very much appreciate ones of the more elaborate and skillfully rendered sort, with lots and lots of fancy outfits, but it is a doll like this, with very naive (and very very expressive!) graphite drawn face, that for me is the best of all. And then these hats! And the excellent cut paper patterns applied to the blocky dresses--to my eye pure and simple perfection, and quite modern feeling too.  This is a set I'd be very glad to simply frame and keep for myself forever.

Doll 3 3/16" t; arms 1 7/8" w. All in very good condition. The doll was cut from a business/trade card reading Edward B. Chase with the word "sewing" visible --and indeed, given the design sensibility of these dresses and hats, I might guess our girl's father was a tailor!
