What I find tends to tell the story of where I've been--last weekend I was up in Maine, with a handful of nautically related things today, though I wasn't considering that at the time. At least I presume the knot work encasing this old bottle was done by a sailor--it feels that way to me, skillfully done and very tight on the bottle, and seeming more akin to an old bottle whimsy or sailor-made basket than a wicker covered wine bottle, say. And with the underside showing the more saturated original colors of the cord, giving a sense of its age. I find it quite beautiful, including for the bubbles in the glass and the play of patterns enabled by the transparency of the glass.
7 5/8" t x 3" d. Very good condition, antique or nearly so I believe. Molded blown glass, with bubbles in the glass visible and seams running up the sides.
