Curious Old Carved Wooden Leg

The foot of an old hand-carved doll? A pipe tamper? I'm not sure, but I think it's a pretty wonderful little leg, with this funny little post extending from the heel of the foot. Beautifully carved tendons and toes, complete with toenails. Surely to bring good luck, and rather a satisfying thing to hold in one's hand and carry around! 

5 3/8" l x 2 1/2" d x 1 1/8" w. There is an old hairline crack coming in from the edge of one side, near the toes and what could be some white something on the top of the leg, which could perhaps be residue from old glue? Otherwise, very good condition with a beautiful patina and I believe quite a bit of age.
