No filter, as they say--the sky here just glows, though there is a greater delicacy to the color, and nuance to the painting as a whole in person (there's a special quality to an oil painting on wood that seems to elude documentation). I found at an antiques shop in Maine--I spotted it from a distance and it drew me like a magnet--and surely that is where it was painted, c. 1920s-30s I believe. Signed by F. Norton Gesner (1876-1955), a Hartford, Connecticut based painter, primarily of landscapes from what I can tell; there are some other examples of his paintings out there, but this one better and much more dramatic than any others I've seen. Really luminous and quite transportive.
13 1/8" x 8 3/4". Oil on wood. Very good condition, uncleaned.
