This one is very very much about the whole package--the way the interior of the case was carved to this violin precisely in place, and the exterior of the case is equally wonderful. It is an early example, 19th century, and I know from the dealer I purchased it from that it was found in Maine. I come across a folk art carving of a violin or guitar every now and then, but this is a special one.
Case 7 9/16" l x 2 3/4" w x 2 3/16" t. Very good antique condition, carved of pine, exterior of case stained and varnished, with gorgeous color and surface. A bit of surface wear to the exterior of the case along the lip where the clasp is, as shown. Clasp closes tighty. Hinges in good shape.
