19th Century Folk Art Portrait Drawing Daguerreotype, Man with Bright Eyes

Regular price $48.00

This one I purchased from the same seller as the daguerreotype of the drawing of the  child I just listed, and I believe they came from the same collection, this one also mid 1800s I believe. This image too is of what looks like a graphite drawn portrait in profile, here of a man perhaps in his 30s or so. There is some scratching to the plate and the outline of this gentleman's profile almost disappears, but in the right light it comes into clear view, best of all his bright eyes with long curling lashes. I think the whole genre of photographs of folk art portraits is pretty fascinating, with the mirror-like surface of the daguerreotype making images like this all the more so.

This is a ninth plate image behind glass with a brass mat and housed in a full leather case. The plate shows some scuffs and abrasions in areas as well as possibly some loss to the far right edge. Plate measures 2 1/2" x 2". Case, closed, measures 3" x 2 1/2" x 9/16".  The case is in good shape but the brass clasp does not lock tight.
