Total joy finding this one, a 19th century handmade Jacob's Ladder, made with a wonderful combination of papers covering the boards, and striped woven ribbons holding them together. Also known as magic tablets and click clack toys, Jacob's ladders are classic folk toys; by holding the top card and flipping it forward, each subsequent card then flips over to the next position, creating a (really quite magical and mesmerizing) cascading illusion. Works from either end, revealing the different colors and patterns of the paper covered boards as it goes, endless pleasure.
Open 23 5/8" x 2 5/8". Closed 3 5/8" x 2 5/8". Very good antique condition, general wear but little notable loss, works just as it should. A rare find.
