One definitely needs a life boat these days, and here one is. I found it at an antique shop in Upstate NY, heading up toward Lake George--and a few feet away a miniature pack basket, also listed today, which felt quite sympatico with it. Looks scratch made to me, with plenty of imperfection to the cutting of the thwarts, which overlay that beautifully slatted floor of the boat. Maybe there was once a carved wooden rudder attached to the back, I'm not certain. Lovingly crafted, with a nice warm patina now, I'd guess 1920s-30s or so. There is a keel on the bottom of the boat such that it sits at just a bit of a slant, but not much.
I seem to have forgotten to measure it but it is about 6 inches long x 2 1/2" wide or so. Very good condition sturdy and sound, with nice age to it.
