Ty Cobb, Detroit to Boston, Very Charming c. 1915 Handmade Baseball Card

Regular price $48.00

I've got a special love for old baseball related drawings (and for the game itself), and also for folk versions of commercially produced objects, which for me always represent a tender sort of longing on the part of their makers. This a handmade baseball card for Ty Cobb, graphite on paper mounted to a scrap of cardboard, which I believe specifically relates to the infamous September 1915 series between the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox, at Fenway, as the two faced off to assume the top spot in the American League. Cobb, who led the major leagues in runs, hits, stolen bases, and batting, was assailed by Boston fans with hisses, thrown bottles and ultimately a riotous crowd that descended onto the field as the Tigers emerged as victors in the first game of the series. More about it all here, including the card for Cobb upon which I believe this one was based. Love.

4 1/8" x 3 1/8" . General wear, very much all to the good, completely charming.
