Antique Hand-painted Checkerboard on Tin with Insanely Beautiful Surface

Regular price $300.00

I find this game board spectacularly beautiful, with that creamy white paint making me swoon, and with the most phenomenal surface, that also has some mystery about it, which comes from the intermingling of the aged paint and tin it was painted upon--brown and rust and silver all together, difficult to know quite where one ends and another begins. It was quite surprising at first to pick it up and find it quite light in weight, only then understanding the surface was in fact metal, which was framed in wood, which itself was painted, reading now as a very dark blue-black. With lovely corner reinforcements to boot, and a flip side which is nearly a beautiful as the front. Much more of a painting than a game board to me, and truly I think just about as gorgeous as a thing can be.

19” x 15” x 1” and in much aged but stable condition. Paint is not actively chipping but this is definitely a thing to hang on the wall and leave alone. Happily, it is light and easy to hang from one nail.
