1909 Dutch School Notebook with Naive Drawings, Star Diagrams and More

Regular price $75.00

My photos are not very good here--graphite on cream paper just seems to fade away-- and this 1909 school notebook is only partially filled,  but it has some very charming moments, and connections to Froebel kindergarten, too. The address on the paper label on the front of the notebook locates is in Utrecht, Holland, and the handwritten notes inside are indeed Dutch. And, in typical Dutch manner, its a pretty orderly and systematic approach  to various lessons here! A number of drawings included, including progressions in drawing animals and trees and quintessentially Dutch land/seascapes, but also a series of pages with notes and sketch relating to building structures with blocks, and a series of increasingly complex star diagrams, which I believe relate to Froebel-ian paper folding. And a great loose drawing of a church, too.

8 3/8" x 6 1/2", 26 leafs, about 16 full, front and back. Photos are fairly comprehensive. A few selected examples first, then photos follow order. Mostly graphite, with a little crayon mixed in. Graphite stronger/darker than photos convey. Very good condition throughout.
