1898 Kindergarten Album, Herman, Minnesota, Paper Folding, Paper Weaving, Yarn Drawing

Regular price $0.00

Another kindergarten beauty, 1898, with the majority of pages here compositions formed through the Froebel kindergarten occupation of paper folding--some quite complex examples, in wonderful range of bold feeling pastels, with color combinations often feeling pretty sophisticated. And then with toning to the paper accrued over the past century and a quarter lending them another dimension. Sometimes these albums are so tidy and linearly progressive as to feel almost oppressive--this one though is loose and lively and joyful; one very much feels the presence of young hands at work. A few thread drawings making use of printed design cards and a few paper weavings too. And with gold embossed lettering on the cover of rose colored cover: Herman Primary School, Kindergarten Work, Teacher Nellie Jacobs!

9 1/8" x 9 1/8".  Full--20 pages, I believe I've documented all of them. Well worn and a bit rough around the edges, with small tears here and there around the edges of the pages, all of a piece with it. Certainly some fading to colors and lots of toning from the designs on opposite pages, which I really like. Soft cover, string binding, holding together very well.
