Finding this one at a photo show in Newton, MA this week felt quite timely given Harvard being so much in the news of late--this a cabinet card photograph of a painting of one-time Harvard President Edward Wigglesworth, who I'll take as an icon for academic freedom now! (And I've actually learned that Yale was founded in counter to the perceived liberalism of the Harvard Divinity School under the leadership of Wigglesworth's father, Edward Michael, the first divinity professor commissioned in the American colonies, appointed in 1722.) What makes this especially nice is that someone--I'd guess a descendent--documented his Harvard-related accomplishments on reverse, from graduate in 1749, to professor, to president, to fellow, through to 1792.
6 5/8 x 4 3/16" and in good condition, with some general toning, especially around the edges of the card.
