I find this one quite beautiful and quite poetic, and it feels like a sort of pun to me too, as I am often snatching up old photos of men on actual (animate) horses! I do find our young man here rather akin to the lone horseman, too, appearing very focused and absorbed in this rather existential test of his own strength and coordination, worlds apart from visitors wandering around in the distance. And quite a beautiful thing this pommel horse--an early leather covered one, four legs splayed, not yet too far divorced from the actual form of the horse that inspired it. Much of the dynamics of life distilled here I'd say.
