Gloves: Terrifically Graphic Old Board and Wire Templates, A Pair (Size 9 1/2 & 10)

Regular price $40.00

I found a group of six of these old templates this week in Maine—where gloves and mittens are certainly a necessity for a good chunk of the year!—and find them so beautiful. These two were obviously for cutting gloves—one sized 9 1/2, the other 10. Nice weight smooth board, which has acquired quite a good patina, with wire edging that shows a little rust, all to the good. I especially love the shapes of the wire-trimmed cutouts for the finger holes, making them look rather like painters palettes. Super graphic and just gorgeous. They also make me think of the marvelous sign language paintings of Martin Wong (if you’re not familiar, look them up!)

Larger: 10 11/16 t x 8 3/4. Smaller: 9 1/2 x 6 7/8. Very good condition, sturdy and sound, early 20th c. I would guess. Price is for the pair.
