My favorite find of the week I think; everything about this just delights me. What a brilliantly resourceful--and aesthetically just right--means of creating a frame for this small photo portrait of a young boy. And the giant bow at his neck feels perfectly in sync with the frame, making the whole thing feel like a present. Folding down the flaps reveals the original exterior of the envelope, crayon colored in quadrants and written upon in ink in the most excellent hand of the subject himself, I presume, from Buffalo, NY. Though I'd be sad not to see that handwriting, I'd be most inclined to nicely frame this; really a wonderful thing.
3 3/4" x 2 7/8" and in good condition, late 19th/early 20th c. or so I believe, with a small tear at the upper right corner that just makes one want to be a little gentle with it.
