I purchased this from a seller in England, and know it came from a collection relating to the Arkwright family, who lived at Hampton Court Castle, Hereford from the early 1800s through 1912. (A quick google turns up a lot about them and lots of photos of that marvelous castle!) I believe it is a carte-de-visite albumen photo, which was given a custom mount, framing this young woman—with quite the necklace!—in an ink drawn window, gazing out. Pretty great I think, and I especially like the positioning of the photo at an angle, such that her head is cocked curiously, and her earring is pretty much at dead center of the frame. Later 19th c. I believe, including drawing; wonderfully unusual.
2 3/4” x 3 7/8” as mounted and in very good condition.
