Willis Hutchinson 1883 Double-Sided Drawing: Bird with Banner, Horses, Saw and Hammer

Regular price $30.00

I recently listed a bunch of double-sided drawings from a small sketchbook by a Willis Hutchinson, dated 1883-84, and am just now getting to listing the final few. Based on a couple of (super sweet!) hand-drawn maps, I believe our Willis likely lived in Port Jefferson in Suffolk County, NY, on the North Shore of Long Island. This drawing was the first page of the sketchbook, with Wilis’ name and the year 1883 spelled out in the banner held in the beak of the bird at top. Horses and boats were favorite subjects, as exemplified here on both sides, with "On its Merits" pictured at the bottom of the front and a very kindly horse, as well as a saw and hatchet, on reverse!

6 7/8” x 4 1/2”, with drawings on both sides. Overall good antique condition with a little toning and smudging to the graphite here and there. Paper is not especially brittle.
