Whence Came You Vintage Freemasons Sign

Regular price $35.00

I nabbed this painted metal sign just because I liked it, but I've since come to understand that "Whence Came You?" is a phrase central to Freemasonry, apparently intended to provide profound thinking about the meaning of life, self, and what it means to be a Mason. The history and rituals of the Freemasons seem incredibly complex, so I won't even try to get into them here, but I do think they claimed a pretty great phrase! And certainly hanging this sign would be a terrific way to greet visitors in all sorts of contexts.

I've not been able to find another sign like it. It's got some age but I don't think it's super old - maybe 1950s or 60s or so. The letters are in relief and painted yellow, the metal is black. Some loss of paint, a little scratching and to the metal, a little light rusting, and one white spot on the surface, maybe paint. Overall very good condition. 10" long x 2 3/8" tall.
