I love an antique Staffordshire transfer decorated child's cup combining text and image, and was struck by this one for the unusualness of its one word caption--WARNING--giving the whole thing a certain ominousness. These cups were certainly used to impart lessons of sorts, so this feels perhaps akin to picturing a fire drill or duck and cover exercise--but compared to similar cups from the period that usually depicted games like 'playing at marbles' or 'leap frog,' it is unexpected---and, to my sensibilities, perfectly ambiguous.
2 3/4" t x 2 11/16" in diameter; 3 3/4" across at handle. Overall good antique condition, no repairs. There are a couple of tiny chips around the rim and some extra crazing visible around them.
