I love everything about this painting, from the bright red boat, to the confident figure in yellow pants fishing from the boat, to the wonderfully specific baskets full of fish and other things including what I'd guess are lemongrass stalks, to the cobalt blue sea animated with white gulls and what look like lily pads everywhere. I am not sure what the seated boy and girl are doing, but they look pretty engaged with it! I find there is an appealing serenity to the painting, like this boat and its crew are in their own little world as they gather their bounty, with the water all to themselves, perhaps in the early hours of the morning.
The painting, gouache on paper, is signed in the bottom left corner. I would guess it is Thai, Indonesian or Vietnamese, where this sorts of "floating markets" are common. The painting has been matted and framed in a simple white metal frame. Framed it measures 13 3/4" long x 12 7/8" tall x 7/8" deep; image size is 10 x 8 3/4". The painting is in excellent condition; there are some light scratches to the surface of the white frame. Note: the photo of the painting with frame shows a glare on the glass; it is not a flaw on the painting.
