Of all the things I've listed today, this is the one which, at least in my perception, carries the most energy--a sweet and humble thing, with a great deal of soul about it. Made as a small wall hanging sewing basket/pocket I believe, with straw over splint "God's Eyes" creating the structure, pom poms emanating from every corner, and great old red calico panel at the back to hang it from. (And a brown calico on the underside.) It has certainly lived a life, but is holding together still, and could be hung or just set on a surface like a basket. Found in Pennsylvania, later 19th century I believe; one sees victorian examples of straw sewing baskets constructed in a related manner, but this is far folkier and primitive than any I've seem.
6" w x 4" d x 5 1/2" t (at back). Well worn and aged but stable and overall pretty sound. To hang one might want to stitch a new hanging loop on the reverse side of the red calico near the top.
