Very Fine Antique Needle Lace Crowing Bird, Framed

Regular price $110.00

I can't get enough of figural lace, and this particular type/style of needle lace is my favorite sort (I believe Belgian in origin), with what looks like a million tiny tight knots making up the bird alone. The wonderful spiderweb-like field surrounding it here suggests a nest to me, as if it might have come with open beak to feed the babies, though as the bird appears to have a comb and wattle (launching this a wonderful arch of triangles, like a banner, running from chin to feet), perhaps it is a rooster crowing from the yard! And what a fabulous shape to the wing and tail feathers!

Framed as found, from which it is easily removed. Frame: 7" x 7".  Lace: 5 1/2 x 5 1/2. Very good condition, no losses, a few very very minor stains/toning, no matter at all. I would guess late 19th/early 20th c.
