Unusual 19th Century Painted and Collaged Pennsylvania Valentine in Silver Gessoed Frame

Regular price $190.00

Love, love. I found this one in Lancaster County, PA, and it's unlike another I've I've seen, with the hearts and stars constructed of paper, cutout and pasted down, with the manner of painting on them akin to grain painting on wood frames and boxes. Wonderfully bold, fantastically rich color, just great--and all the better I think by having done by "your friend, Robert Mallery."

The poem reads: Acquaintance is a trivial thing / Love, they say is blind / But true friendship is like a chain /  That's linked and made to last for all time.

Framed: 15" x 11 1/2". Paper (board): 10 1/16" x 8".  All in very good antique condition. I placed it in this great silver gessoed antique frame (also found in PA) simply mounted with 2 pieces of archival tape to off white paper and backed with a couple of pieces of matboard. Easily removed/reframed if desired.
