No way could I resist this handsome fellow posing in his tight fitting trunks, with what I take for a fair bit of attitude, too. Something about the angle of the burgundy curtain to his right and beams overhead and lines of the stool gives the composition a bit of a Diebenkorn feeling to me, and this young man's face I think has a bit of a Modigliani aspect, too. Found in Massachusetts, this is unsigned and I don’t know who painted it, but I might guess they were a student at somewhere like the Art Students League in NYC in the 1930s -40s. A nice one to keep company with I’d say!
23 1/2 x 15 3/4 canvas size; image: 21 1/2 x 14 1/8". My lighting for photos was all over the place and not optimal! As evident, the canvas is unstretched and shows some old fold lines, most prominentally running on a horizontal angle 2/3 of the way down. The wrinkles may steam out some but they don't bother me personally as it has a casualness about it already; I'd probably hang just as in this from pins in the corners, right outside the bathroom!
