Nothing prettier than a peony, I think, and this theorem-style watercolor captures three of them in all of their soft and lush blooming beauty. 19th century American, it was done on thin wove paper, which shows a few tears, stains and some creasing around the edges, but the painting itself is in very good shape, and very lovely. One could have a mat cut to frame it closer in, but I personally don't mind at all seeing the wear and edges on something like this, and would hang it up just as it is, in this nice antique wooden frame that suits it well.
Framed: 14 4/8" x 11 3/8" x 1 1/4". Paper size approx 11 3/8" x 8 3/4". Wired on the back for hanging. First detail (2nd image) was shot in natural light and shows color most accurately.
