I've been paying attention lately to earlier 19th century hand-colored prints of this sort, most notably published by B Brammel in Philadelphia-- typically featuring girls with pets or girls with flowers or girls (maybe a brother sometimes) engaged in some sort of play, they are close kin to Staffordshire childs-ware cups, and to rewards of merit, at to children's chapbooks, but they are their own particular thing. And, very often, one finds them in their original frames. And, as a lover of naive 19th century watercolors, the earlier the better, the connection between these and what shows up in those is very strong!
This actually seems a scarce example, published by J.L Marks in London, much better known for satirical prints and political cartoons. Hand-colored wood engraving, 1830s-40s, in its original painted wooden frame indeed, with original glass and wood back.
10 5/8" x 8 7/8" under original glass in original frame. All in good condition. A small wire loop was added to the very small existing wire hanging loop that I have not removed. One split to the wood back but it is holding fine.
