Living in New England and spending a lot of time up in Maine, I come across a lot of Wabanaki baskets (Wabanaki emcompassing the Abenaki, Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot.) I always admire them, but most of the time feel okay to leave them for someone else. I especially like the small, old ones though, and this one, displayed amid maybe 10 other larger and fancier ones, just struck me--as if carrying an especially deep energy, which I do believe in! Ash splint and sweet grass, with the splint of the rim and warp of the bottom half dyed green. Early 20th century I believe, and I believe Penobscot.
4 3/8" d x 1 1/2" t. Good presumed antique condition, nice warm patina, with a very small dark stain at the very center of the lid and what looks like one small patch of loss visible from the bottom, as documented.
