This is one of a charming pair of vintage hand-painted Swedish wooden plates, each featuring a couple--one by the sea, the other skiing. Both feature wood-burned decorative garlands and the text "Minne från Sverige" (souvenirs from Sweden) across their top rims. This plate with the seaside couple celebrates Halland, on the western coast of Sweden, while the other represent Lappland in the north. The figures are warmly rendered in the style of beloved Swedish illustrator Aina Stenberg.
The plates, c. 1950, are both signed I-J. The back features the original Diö Slöjd sticker and "Made in Sweden." There is a hook on the back of the plate for hanging.
