I purchased this one at Brimfield because I thought it was a really beautiful object and could not put it down. It is an early trammel point, brass center and iron point. As I understand it, a trammel point like this would have fit over a custom wooden or metal beam and be used to scribe large circles, arcs, and transfer exact measurements beyond the capacity of a standard compass. This one, of which I can find no close match, is 19th century I believe, and I think a beauty to add to the collection of old marking and measuring tools.
5" x 1 1/2" x 7/8". Good antique condition, rich patina. Screw turns easily and closes tight.
