Sincerity and Truth, Early 19th Century Needlepoint Sampler with Verse and Glorious Flowers in Urn

In no world could I walk away from the flowers and urn depicted on this early 19th century sampler--the green and yellow patterning on the vessel, and the oversized, wild joyfulness of those silk embroidered flower: to my eye just about as good as it gets. (And I'll always much prefer a sampler that feels more freeform/improvisatory than one ordered in a neat grid.) Such is a bit the case with the alphabets too, a few letters stitched twice, once three times, and a lower case "a" inserted among the capitals. And the verse (incorporating the use of the long "s") is quite a nice one too: Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. therefore let us keep the feast. not with old leaven neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness. but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (I Corinthians, v. 7.) Hard to argue with that (if only all "Christians" lived by it!)

Framed, under glass: 13 1/2" x 11 3/4". Good antique condition, with some minor staining to lower right corner. Framed as found, in what appears to be an antique silver gilt frame.
