Part of what I love about this oil on wood panel painting is its succinctness: just a ship sailing across the sea toward a castle on the coast. Perhaps at sea for quite a long time and just about to achieve its destiny, or perhaps it will sail on by, as that fortress looks rather formidable! (And, indeed, it seems a bit like a metaphorical dual between darkness and light, progress and stasis, going on here.) Late 19th/early 20th c. I'd think and nicely moody.
7 1/4 x 4 13/16 and in very good condition. With a simple hanger of nails and wire on reverse.
