Perhaps the person who carved these was a maker of chess sets and carved a whole bunch of knights at once? More likely I'd think is that they were made for some kind of horse racing game--and I must say that just looking at these makes me think it was a really good one. Whatever the case, I love all these old horse headed pieces as a set now, wearing their original paint in a terrific palette. Great for lining up along the edge of a shelf in a long row, or grouping in a herd somewhere; really lovely things I think.
Each piece measures about 1 7/8" t x 3/4" wide and deep. Very good condition, beautiful aging to the paint. Set of 16.
