Wonderful Early Folk Art Sawing Man Whirligig, Working!

Regular price $230.00

This is actually the very first whirligig I have ever bought (aside from a few figures salvaged from broken ones)...I often look at them, but they often seem more awkward and cumbersome than I want to deal with--but not this one, which I find really very elegant and just right in every possible way.  Photos really do it no justice; the beauties of the old paint are subtle, the white doesn't come across well in images, and it has a terrific humble delicacy about it. It is quite an old one, late 19th/early 20th c. I believe, in very good condition and working still, and of just the right size to set on a shelf or tabletop where one might give a gentle twirl to the windmill to set our beautiful articulated sawer sawing. In truth, he doesn't do a lot of active sawing, but he bends and stands and bends again beautifully, and if one sets the saw to the far end of the log, he'll pull it back toward him.  Everything about this one was delicately, lovingly made, and the old paint on all it is far better in person. A really wonderful example.
