There are handwritten measurements down the side of this old wooden holder that are pretty well faded but I think i can make out 13/16", 7/8", etc. Maybe it held trays of type? Clearly something of graduated scale, as the segments get both taller and deeper. I thought it might be be useful for some particular sort of sorting now (like color swatches for different projects, or rooms of the house.) And just a well constructed and formally satisfying thing, equally good standing on end and laying horizontally. Late 19th/early 20th c. I believe.
12 5/8" x 3 9/16" x 2 7/8". Very good condition and super sturdy.
