This made me very happy to find. A perfectly corked small glass bottle filled on October 9, 1883 with "sand from the Atlantic" as described on the label, very carefully handwritten in black ink in perfect period lettering almost exactly 143 years ago today! A time capsule that is also a record of place, and also an encapsulation of Victorian obsession with collecting natural specimens--one might imagine some sea moss was gathered to press into an album on this day too.
3 1/2" t x 1 1/16" w x 1 1/16" d. The smallest bit of smearing to the ink which one might imagine occurred while it was sill left (maybe our gatherer was left handed!) Overall excellent condition, feels bright and crisp and perfect.
