Not in perfect condition, but so charming and so singular, I don't mind--and what a lot of work and care Samuel Stevens of West Derby Vermont, who signed the back, invested in making this wall hanging comb box, 150 years ago or so I would guess. It feels to me perhaps connected to Samuel studying geometry, with all of these gridded holes, connected by carved lines, creating triangles within triangles and squares within squares-- and feeling a bit as if drawing constellations from stars, too. And more holes and connecting lines on the angled sides, too. Very very sweet.
8 1/2" l x 3 1/8" d x 7 5/8" t. Loss to right bottom front foot, as documented. It is noticeable, but less so when hung from the wall, and it is sound and not fragile otherwise, and very usable. Great warm dry patina, too.
