I purchased these little booklets of paper samples along with a few stray wallpaper samples from a seller in Maine who often has great dollhouse furniture, so am thinking they were likely used by someone for selecting paper to use in a dollhouse. A little research reveals that Russell Bookcrafts Hitchin was located in Bedfordshire, England, and published numbers books and catalogues related to all aspects of bookbinding, looks like from about 1950 through the 1980s. There are about 32 samples in one of the books and 18 in the other, all numbered on the backsides, and held together with brass clips, easily removed. I think the patterns on them are pretty great, and though if not to enjoy just as the little curiosities they are, surely someone could be these to creative use.
Sample books measure 3 1/4" x 2 1/4" and are in very good condition.
