This one had me at the PROMESA, including for the period at the end of the word, as if the final word indeed! My very favorite retablos are of the very naive, very earnest, and relatively spare variety, and I especially like the small ones--this painting feeling holy indeed, the heartfelt expression of a true believer, hat in hand, on his knees. And the dark blue ground here feels less as if painted on and more as if emerging from some deep place. In a wooden frame brushed with silver and gold, as found, which suits it perfectly. Beautiful.
7 3/4" x 5 3/4" framed, as found, no glass. Clipped top corners to the tin, visible at corners of frame, and small hole at top center, as one might expect. Very good, perfectly aged condition. Earlier 20th century I believe.
